2020 Annual General Meeting – 2020 AEBF Committee Elected Officers

Dear Australian Eight Ball Federation Members,

The 2020 Annual General Meeting of the Australian Eight Ball Federation was held on Saturday. It was very reassuring to see so many skilled and experienced people willing to fill the positions vacated by the outgoing 2019 committee members. We had an exciting day on the calendar which saw healthy competition for many of the vacated positions.

We are pleased to announce the following officers on the Executive and Development Committee:

With a mixture of current national players and individuals with specialised skills, our mindset is to produce the best game possible for all of our members around the country. Increasing opportunities for members will be one of our main goals, and this team is focused on bringing the game to the forefront of Australian sport. The future of Eight Ball in Australia is bright!

In moving forward, we would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of the outgoing committee members, Greg Costello, Tracy Butterworth and Paul Thorn. The huge amount of passion and commitment exhibited by these individuals has been invaluable to Eight ball in Australia, and the sport is in a better place because of your efforts. Thank you for your dedication to bring the Australian Eight Ball Federation to where it is now, and we wish you well in your endeavours.

AEBF RANKINGS SYSTEM – retired 2020

The ranking system is made up of 3 components. The first is a player’s win/loss percentage in the teams event at the National Championships. The second is rankings points awarded to those who competed in the Singles event and the third is rankings points awarded to those players who competed in the Doubles event. (Doubles no longer played)

TEAMS EVENT RANKINGS POINTS

Rankings points for the teams event are awarded on a player’s win/loss percentage. The players are sorted first by the number of frames won and then by their win/loss percentage. The reason for sorting on the number of frames won first, and not solely on the win/loss percentage, is to avoid the situation of a player getting more rankings points for only playing 3 frames at a Nationals and winning all 3, than a player who played 24 and won 20,

  • Once the players are sorted, rankings points are awarded in the following manner:
  • TOP 10% of TOTAL players (1 ? 10%) Their win/loss percentage of 450 points
  • 2nd 10% of TOTAL players (11 ? 20%) Their win/loss percentage of 400 points
  • 3rd 10% of TOTAL players (21 ? 30%) Their win/loss percentage of 350 points
  • 4th 10% of TOTAL players (31 ? 40%) Their win/loss percentage of 300 points
  • 5th 10% of TOTAL players (41 ? 50%) Their win/loss percentage of 250 points
  • 6th 10% of TOTAL players (5 1 ? 60%) Their win/loss percentage of 200 points
  • 7th 10% of TOTAL players (61 ? 70%) Their win/loss percentage of 150 points
  • 8th 10% of TOTAL players (71 ? 80%) Their win/loss percentage of 100 points
  • 9th 10% of TOTAL players (81 ? 90%) Their win/loss percentage of 50 points
  • LAST 10% of TOTAL players (91 ? 100%) Their win/loss percentage of 25 points

The rankings points are accumulated over the previous four (4) National Championships with the most recent Championships being worth 100% of their value, two years past worth 75% of their value, 3 years 50 % and 4 years 25%.
If the format goes to 3 years then the percentage applied would be 33.33% and 66.66% respectively.
If the five year format is adopted then the percentage would be 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% respectively.

The WEPF AGM – 15th August 2020 – 10.00am (UK).

The WEPF are to adopt and promote an new set of Rules known as The Supreme Rules (copy of the rules attached), The rule change will come into effect in 2022 ready for WEPF World Championships.
As part of the proposal the 2022 WEPF World Championships will be awarded to England and held in The Isle of Man.
Members also have the right to bring this date forward for the rule change to the 2021 World Championships should they feel it is advantageous to do so.

Reason.
The WEPF is currently in a contract with Alitus Services Limited and the WEPF received a sum of money relating to the 1st year of the contract associated with the World Championships 2020. These will of course not take place however the Sponsor has been kind enough for the money to be utilised predominantly for the 2021 World Championships in Birmingham.
The contract has a second phase to it that relates to the second year of World Championships, this will now relate to the 2022 World Championships.
The conditions required for the second phase of the contract that will provide Sponsorship funds of £100,000 are as follows:-
1 The 2022 World Championships are to be held in the Isle of Man.
2 The rule change to come into effect by 2022. (copy of the rules attached)
Furthermore an additional £20,000 contribution will be added to the Sponsorship for 2022, this is solely to help with funding of travel, mainly for the Southern hemisphere Countries attending.

It’s with great pleasure that I would like to extend a warm & inviting welcome on behalf of the Australian Eight Ball Federation, Executive Committee and Life Members, to the 36th Australian Eight Ball Championships, again held at the wonderful Commercial Club Albury.

It is a great honour to be a part of this prestigious event with all States and Territories from around Australia supporting and representing our great sport.

I would like to congratulate all competitors on your outstanding achievements that have led you to this very moment. You should all be extremely proud, and I wish you all the very best. Regardless of the results from this year’s event, one thing you will all take home is fond memories & wonderful moments from this experience.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all Team Managers and Associations in advance for your role in ensuring a smooth transition throughout this prestigious event.

We again are pleased to announce that matches will be lived streamed in the new arena thanks to Cueball TV, enabling family, friends and supporters of your State team to enjoy the live coverage of Australia’s most competitive & prestigious event.

This year we are introducing a new event, the 2019 Australia Eight-Ball Federation Plate. This is a non-ranking event designed to enable all players a great chance to warm up their skills on the first day and an opportunity to showcase some of the local Albury talent as well.

2020 World Championships – Australian Teams Announcement

For the first time since 1993, Australia will not be sending teams to the 2020 World Eight Ball Championships.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected travel plans in Australia on multiple levels, most relevant in this case with International travel. Although the countdown is on to lifting some of the measures put in place for social distancing and possibly domestic travel, the uncertainty is too great regarding planning International travel for our 40 plus players, Team Managers and travelling companions.

With many first-time representatives across the 6 Australian teams, this decision is very disappointing to us all. But it is of the highest importance that the AEBF declare that the safety of our Members is our number one priority.

Please join us in congratulating once again and acknowledging the great achievements of the following players that made up the 2020 Australian traveling teams.

Division City: 16 teams of 6 players + ump & tm.
Division Country: 16 teams of 6 players + ump & tm.
* 1 or more player/s must be female.
Yes the ump & tm can play in the team fixtures.
